October 2010 — To better serve the needs of the thriving technical sector in North Alabama and Southern Tennessee, WBCNA established the Government Procurement Assistance Center (GPAC) in January of 2010. GPAC serves a growing number of small businesses who want to do business with the Government. “We are coaching more and more small business owners who want to do business with the Government and the large prime contractors,” says Joanne Randolph, President & CEO of WBCNA, “and that is only going to increase as the BRAC continues to bring in more Federal work and contractors to support it.”

WBCNA recently acknowledged BID Designs’ leadership role as the Presenting Sponsor of the GPAC for 2011. Randolph added, “BID Designs is the ideal partner for our GPAC program, as they provide a much-needed service that our clients, and many businesses pursuing Government business, could benefit from.”

Among services such as one-on-one coaching, the WBCNA GPAC provides assistance with CCR registration, NAICS code identification, Capabilities Statements, Certifications (8a, HUBZone, MBE, WBE, DBE) and business matchmaking. The strategic partnership with BID Designs has also resulted in a highly-anticipated series of Proposal Development workshops.

The GPAC fulfills an essential niche in economic development for our region. With the support of BID Designs, WBCNA will be able to continue to deliver training that equips the small business community to thrive in North Alabama. Small businesses play a major role in economic growth, as they are responsible for:

Creating 2 out of every 3 net new jobs over the last decade across the country
Employing half of all private sector employees
Paying 45% of private sector payroll
Employing 41% of all technical employees
(engineers, scientists, IT)
